How to Set Up Your Loyalty Program

1Mint Club TeamMarch 5, 20268 min read

A well-designed loyalty program is one of the most powerful tools in your arsenal for turning one-time buyers into lifelong customers. Studies show that increasing customer retention by just 5% can boost profits by 25–95%. With 1Mint Club, setting up a loyalty program takes just a few minutes — no technical expertise required.

In this guide, we'll walk you through every step of creating your loyalty program, from navigating to the right settings page to configuring your points-per-dollar ratio and expiration policies. By the end, you'll have a fully operational loyalty program ready to reward your best customers.

Before You Start

  • An active 1Mint Club partner account
  • A Growth or Scale subscription plan (loyalty programs are a premium feature)
  • Your business profile completed in Settings

Navigate to Loyalty Settings

1

Open your Settings page

From your dashboard, click on "Settings" in the left sidebar. This is your central hub for configuring everything about your 1Mint Club account — from your business profile to integrations and, of course, your loyalty program.

2

Switch to the Loyalty tab

At the top of the Settings page, you'll see several tabs: Profile, Loyalty, Integrations, Users, and more. Click on the "Loyalty" tab to access your loyalty program configuration. If you're on a Starter plan, you'll see a prompt to upgrade — loyalty programs are available on Growth and Scale plans.

Pro Tip

If you're unsure which plan you're on, check the Billing tab in Settings. You can upgrade your plan at any time without losing any data.

Create Your Loyalty Program

3

Click "Create Loyalty Program"

If you haven't set up a program yet, you'll see a prominent "Create Loyalty Program" button. Click it to open the creation dialog. This is where the magic happens — you'll define the core parameters of how your program works.

4

Enter your program name and description

Give your loyalty program a name that resonates with your brand. Something like "Rewards Club," "VIP Points," or "[Your Business Name] Rewards" works well. The description is optional but recommended — it helps your team understand the program's purpose and can be displayed to customers.

Pro Tip

Choose a name that feels exclusive and exciting. "Golden Rewards Club" sounds more enticing than "Points Program." Your customers should feel special when they hear the name.

5

Set your points-per-dollar ratio

This is the heart of your loyalty program. The "Points per $1" setting determines how many points a customer earns for every dollar they spend. The default is 1 point per dollar, but you can set it to any value starting from 0.1. A higher ratio (like 5 or 10 points per dollar) makes customers feel like they're earning faster, even if the redemption thresholds are proportionally higher.

Pro Tip

A common strategy is to set a higher points-per-dollar ratio (e.g., 10 points per $1) because larger numbers feel more rewarding psychologically. Just make sure your redemption tiers are calibrated accordingly.

Configure Expiration Rules

6

Decide whether points should expire

Toggle the "Points Expire" switch to enable or disable point expiration. Expiring points create urgency and encourage customers to return sooner. Non-expiring points feel more generous and can build long-term goodwill. There's no right or wrong answer — it depends on your business model and customer expectations.

7

Set the expiration period

If you've enabled expiration, specify the number of months after which unused points expire. The default is 12 months (one year), which is a widely accepted standard. Shorter periods (3–6 months) drive more frequent visits, while longer periods (18–24 months) are more customer-friendly.

Pro Tip

We recommend starting with 12 months. You can always adjust the expiration period later based on how your customers respond. It's easier to extend a shorter period than to shorten a longer one.

Review and Manage Your Program

8

Save and review your program

Click "Create Program" to finalize your setup. You'll be taken back to the Loyalty tab where you can see your program details: the name, description, points-per-dollar ratio, and expiration policy. Everything is editable, so don't worry about getting it perfect on the first try.

9

Update your rules anytime

Need to adjust your program? Click the "Rules" button to open a dialog where you can modify the points-per-dollar ratio and expiration settings. Changes take effect immediately for new transactions — existing points balances are preserved.

Pro Tip

If you change your points ratio, consider sending a campaign to your customers announcing the update. Positive changes (like earning more points) are great marketing moments.
