How to Redeem Offers with QR Codes
You've created offers and sent campaigns — now it's time to close the loop. When customers walk through your door with a coupon, 1Mint Club's redemption system makes validating and recording it effortless. A quick QR scan is all it takes.
The Redemptions page is your control center for everything coupon-related. You can scan QR codes, see real-time redemption metrics, and browse through your full redemption history. This guide covers every step of the process so your staff can handle redemptions smoothly from day one.
Before You Start
- An active 1Mint Club partner account
- At least one offer created with coupons distributed to customers
- A device with a camera (phone, tablet, or laptop webcam) for QR scanning
Understanding the Redemptions Dashboard
Navigate to the Redemptions page
Click "Redemptions" in your dashboard sidebar. This page opens to a clean overview showing three key metric cards at the top: Total Redemptions (how many coupons have been redeemed overall), Active Coupons (how many coupons are currently valid and unredeemed), and Redemption Rate (the percentage of distributed coupons that have been used).
Browse the redemption history table
Below the metrics, you'll find a searchable table listing every redemption. Each row shows the coupon code, the customer who used it, the associated offer, the redemption status, the date and time, and the location. Use the search bar to quickly find specific redemptions by coupon code, customer name, or offer title.
Check your Redemption Rate regularly. A rate below 10% might mean your offers aren't compelling enough or aren't reaching the right audience. A rate above 30% means your marketing is hitting the mark.
Scan a QR Code
Open the QR scanner
Click the "Scan QR Code" button on the Redemptions page. This opens a scanner dialog that activates your device's camera. Point the camera at the customer's QR code — it can be displayed on their phone screen, printed on paper, or shown on any other medium.
Position and scan the code
Hold the QR code within the scanner's viewfinder. The system reads the code automatically — no need to press a button. The QR code contains encoded information linking it to a specific offer, customer, and coupon. Once detected, the scanner processes the information instantly.
Review the scan result
After a successful scan, the system validates the coupon. You'll see the offer details, the customer's name, and the coupon status. If the coupon is valid and unredeemed, you'll get a confirmation that the redemption was recorded. If the coupon has already been used or has expired, you'll see a clear error message explaining why it can't be redeemed.
Train your staff to show the confirmation screen to customers after scanning. It builds trust and gives the customer a satisfying "completed" moment.
What Happens Behind the Scenes
Coupon status is updated
When a QR code is scanned and validated, the coupon's status changes from "active" to "redeemed" in the database. This prevents double-use — if someone tries to scan the same coupon again, the system will flag it as already redeemed.
Customer engagement is recorded
The redemption is logged as an engagement event on the customer's profile. This data feeds into your analytics, showing which customers are most active, which offers drive the most foot traffic, and how your overall engagement funnel performs.
Metrics update in real time
Your Redemptions dashboard metrics (Total Redemptions, Redemption Rate) update immediately after each scan. You can also see the new redemption appear at the top of the history table. This real-time feedback loop helps you gauge offer performance throughout the day.
During peak hours or special promotion days, keep the Redemptions page open on a tablet at the counter. The live metrics give you an instant pulse on how the promotion is performing.
Handling Edge Cases
Expired coupons
If a customer presents a QR code for an expired coupon, the scanner will display an "expired" message. You can choose to honor it at your discretion — some businesses create goodwill by accepting recently expired coupons — but the system won't record it as a valid redemption automatically.
Already redeemed coupons
If the same QR code is scanned twice, the system clearly indicates it has already been used, showing the original redemption date and time. This protects you from accidental or intentional double-redemptions.
If a customer insists their coupon hasn't been used, check the redemption history table by searching for their name. You'll see exactly when and where each of their coupons was redeemed.
